Malcolm Merlyn, also known as the Dark Archer, is a recurring antagonist in the Arrowverse TV Show Arrow. He first appeared in the episode "Pilot" in 2012, played by actor John Barrowman.
Merlyn is portrayed as a wealthy businessman and close friend of the Queen family. However, he is secretly a highly skilled archer and a member of the League of Assassins. He is responsible for the Undertaking, a plan to destroy the Glades, a crime-ridden section of Starling City.
His motivations are rooted in the death of his wife, leading him to believe that the city is beyond saving and needs to be cleansed. Throughout the series, he serves as a complex antagonist, sometimes allying with and sometimes opposing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.
